Was the German codename for the invasion of the USSR which took place on 22 June 1941. Launched by Hitler in violation of the existing non-aggression treaty with Stalin, it was designed to provide the Reich with 'living space in the East'.
07-08-1941 to 19-09-1941
One of the most successful battles for the German Army during Barbarossa. Over 600,000 Soviet soldiers were encircled by German troops in the city of Kiev and its surrounding areas.
02-10-1941 to 07-01-1942
German siege of the capital of the Soviet Union, Moscow at the end of 1941, and into 1942. The siege would be a failure as German troops would never make its final push into the city.
08-09-1941 to 27-01-1944
Another siege by German troops, this time of the namesake of the first leader of the Soviet Union, Vladimir Lenin. The siege would last 2+ years, and would be broken as German troops were in full-retreat as the Soviet Union drove them back.
23-08-1942 to 02-02-1943
This battle would signal a turning of the tide of the war, as Soviet troops under Georgy Zhukov would successfully keep German troops from taking the city and advancing to the oil fields of the Caucasus.
